Mr Raja Venkataraman was the chief guest at the Launch event of RightEdge. Following are key takeaways from his talk
1.The young population of India is considered its demographic dividend but given the large number of youths coming up for employment every year and a very high level of life style diseases prevalent among the youth , Employability and wellness in health is imperative failing which would be a demographic disaster;
2.Knowledge gets one the license to enter the door of employment or entrepreneurship but skills will decide their future. A great cricketing batsman or a bowler may have to give way to an all rounder in T20 as that skill is more important and desired for the team, same is in employment. Skills aligned to the needs of the job determine the choice of talent that is hired;
3.As an employee, one is normally evaluated on knowledge skills and attitude. The last part is over arching. Knowledge is given and skills differentiate the one who makes it vs the one who loses out.
4.If there is one skill that is imperative to success, it is communication and presentation skills.The span of attention in today's world is very limited and if one fails to make the right impact in the first few minutes it is a lost case. Sharp succinct and impactful communication and presentation is critical to get a job and remain in the job and this is true even if you are an entrepreneur.
5.A good leader measures his or her success by the number of leaders they help develop and they chase satisfaction and not success as the former is Real while the latter is apparent and short lived. They never stop learning ,nurturing and improvising on their skills as skill development is a journey and not a destination.
